Dog and Puppy Separation Anxiety

My rescue puppy rips up the carpet and whines when leave what do I do?

I just purchased a Collie German shepherd Cross/Mix puppy who is approximately 4 months old. He was terrified when we first got him but has slowly come round now he's got an excellent nature very sweet but I've left him twice for 1/2hrs max and when I came home he had ripped up my flooring and he was bleeding because of it. He had cried as I asked the neighbors, now I have noone to watch her and I have to go out a few times without her I left her treats, water, chews, toys. I don't no what else to do please help!!!!

Hi and don't panic. Firstly congratulations on taking on a rescue puppy - you have done a wonderful thing. It is always difficult when you choose to take on a rescue puppy as you often have no idea about the puppy's history and how they have been treated. I am not a Vet and I would advise you to take your puppy to the Vet's mainly because the symptoms you are describing sound like Separation Anxiety. This is when a young or old dog exhibits intense anxiety when their owner leaves them on their own for periods of time. It is treatable and rather than go into lots of detail and repeating myself I have provided lots of links below on what to expect and what to do to solve this problem.

Hope the links help.
