Grain Free Dog Food

I would like to switch my dog to a home made grain free diet. I read the recipes on this page and was wondering how much to make in order to satisfy my 150 lbs English Mastiff. He has lots of skin issues (he is a puppy mill rescue) and I think this is my last option to cure this problem. I have literally tried everything else!

I Dani - it seems a real shame that this is your last chance - have you really tried everything? There are lots of products out there that your vet would be able to prescribe to alleviate the problems. We own a West Highland Terrier who has lots of skin issues too, so we understand how upsetting it is to see your dog suffering.

If you don't feel very comfortable using conventional treatments - why don't you visit a holistic vet where they offer treatments including homoeopathy, acupuncture and even advice on the best nutritional diet for a large dog with skin problems.

Anyway back to the original question - sorry sometimes I tend to go off on a tangent :) For a dog weighing between 125 and 150 pounds - the amount of grain free dog food that we would recommend is:

For an Adult who has regular exercise = 4 and 3/4 cups up to 5 and 1/2 cups or 471-546 grams

For a senior dog, lower the amount to 3 cups up to 3 and 1/3 cups = 297 - 330 grams.

Don't forget to speak to your vet though first when changing your dog's diet. Hope this helps and let me know how you get on.

cups 3-3 1/3 cups
58.7-68 kg 471-546 grams 297-330 grams
