Kennel cough symptoms in dogs and puppies can be very uncomfortable for
your pooch, although it may not be life threatening it is always a good
idea to get some advice from your vet before you start the treatment
and begin treating the disease from home.

Hacking
Cough - A hacking or honking
cough in dogs and puppies sounds different than it does in people. It
sounds dry and comes from deep within your dog's body. It sounds like
your dog maybe vomiting this cough.
Fever
- If your dog has developed a temperature and fever along with a
hacking cough he could have kennel cough. Feel your dog's ears to see
if they are hot as this is a good sign.
Phlegm
- If your dog or puppy is coughing, retching and making a gagging
sound. A good idea is to check where your dog sleeps to see if there is
any yellow phlegm or discharge on his bedding - but remember a dog can
have a dry cough that doesn't produce much phlegm.
Lethargy
and Tiredness - If your dog
seems less active and doesn't come when called and seems generally
under the weather - this is another symptom of kennel cough.
You know your dog or
puppy better than anyone so follow your instincts,
but worryingly and this is where it gets tricky with kennel cough
symptoms in dogs and puppies is that a dog or puppy can still be quite
active with
the disease!
