My dog has suddenly become aggressive
My border collie is six years old and has suddenly turned on me - albeit in a stressful situation at the vets. This is a well-socialised dog who will sit when told, sit before people for attention and not jump up at them, give you a paw, etc. I am still in shock. I was putting a muzzle on him and he was grumbling away then he turned. He didn't bite my arm or my hand, he caught my jacket at the stomach area. In the end the vet had to put one of those poles on him so I could get the muzzle on. He doesn't like the vet and gets muzzled but this is behaviour that is totally unacceptable as it means I no longer have control of my dog - my six-year companion who is a joy to walk and to be around. I have a science degree in psychology, have studied animal behaviour modification but am just too emotional to se my way through this. I'm sure the problem isn't medical. He wasn't feeling well, I know. But I've never had a dog that has turned on me and need to sort the problem out now. Since getting back from the vets last night he growls occasionally at me. Is he blaming me for not backing him up at the vets? I would love to hear the opinion of a qualified comparitive psychologist on this and am currently looking for a well-qualified specialist to help me save my dog from an early demise.
