Puppy Potty Pad Training Help!

Hi, my name is Jen and I bought a 10 week old Papillon puppy named Darcy last week. My problem is he wont potty on the pads, he just wants to pull them all over the place. The adhesive strips don't keep them down. Duct tape wont either. My floors are carpet and I don't know how to keep him from being his playful self with the pads. He's relieved himself outside a few times but I'm not always home when he needs to go. Help!

Hi and thanks for the question - we will give you a few tips but we have actually covered most of it in our links at the bottom of the page. Your puppy is very young and it is very normal for your puppy to be testing things with his mouth - it is how a young puppy tests his environment. Try not to focus on using training pads - although they do have their place training your puppy to pee and poop outside is the best course of action - have you thought of getting a dog flap? Another way to manage the problem is to possibly use a litter box or tray as opposed to training pads. If you do catch your puppy in the act of chewing the pads say 'No' and redirect his attention to something that he is allowed to chew like a chew or toy.

Hope this helps - and look at the links below as they go into far more detail.
