Puppy Urinating when Sleeping
My Springer Spaniel puppy is 16 weeks old and is urinating when sleeping and still lies there and also urinates allot through the day - what shall I do?
Hi I'm sorry to hear that your puppy is having this problem. I would take your puppy to the vet as soon as possible as there might be a medical problem causing the urination.
If you have already ruled out any medical reasons then it is probably just due to the age of your puppy. You have to remember that a 16 week old puppy is still a baby - and you know what babies do - yep they pee and poop even when they are asleep. As your puppy gets older he will learn to control his bladder and will be able to last longer.
Start Housebreaking (Potty Training) as soon as you can as this will train your puppy's bladder. Use Crate training and watch for signs that your puppy is about to pee or poop - normally after waking, eating or drinking and of course when they get excited. Put a cue on going outside (Potty Time) and attach a leash to your puppy. Take him or her outside and wait until he s about to pee. As soon as he is about to go say 'Go Potty' and when he (or she) has peed give your puppy lots and lots of attention and of course a treat. The more you practice potty training the stronger your puppy's bladder will become.
