Shih Tzu Dog Obedience Training
I have two female Shih Tzu sisters. They are three years old and have lived together their entire lives. Recently one of them seems very jealous/violent with the other. She growls and fights with the other one and I am afraid someone is going to get hurt separating them. What is the reason for this sudden change?
Hi when it comes to sudden behavior changes it is very important that any medical problems are ruled out - for example Arthritis is often a cause of sudden aggression and mood changes. Another thing that you should rule out is the canine heat cycle - I am unsure whether or not your dogs have been neutered but females often display rapid mood changes as they get older and go into the heat cycle. Mood changes can include jealous and even aggressive behavior. You could also look into the environment - has anything changed - it is unusual for a dog to suddenly become aggressive for no reason - look into anything that might have changed in your dogs environment - you will notice something that has triggered this behavior change. Continue exercising your dogs together and playing with them - use obedience training techniques to reinforce the behavior you want - including simple training techniques like the 'sit', 'stay' and 'come' command.
