The
staph bacteria normally live on the human skin in places like the
mouth, nose, groin, genitals and anal areas. Problems may occur when
the staph bacteria manage to get access to the body via a cut to a
specific area of the skin.
If the bacteria does manage to infect a specific area, symptoms may
include. spots, rashes, impetigo, cellulitis, impetigo and absecces.
In
Humans the following symptoms may occur...
Cellulitsis can be quite severe and if you are infected then you will
need urgent medical attention. Staph infection symptoms causing
cellulitis will include a swollen area, fever. Cellulitis normally
attacks the lower legs and face but it can attack anywhere on the body.
Toxic shock syndrome is also a possibility. This is not a skin
infection but has symptoms including a high fever, stiff neck and pain
in the neck and extremely bad headaches.
If a deep infection has occurred such as
staphylococcal
endocarditis which effects
the heart valves, you will need immediate medical attention as this can
be fatal fast.
In
dogs the following symptoms may occur...
- Red and scaly skin
with ulcers
- Very severe rashes in
it's advanced stages.
- Your dog may lose his
hair.
- Blisters that ooze pus
and may be filled with blood.
- Spots and scaling to
the skin
- Tiredness and general
lethargy.
- The nose, chin and
feet are often affected with bad rashes.

- Allergies to food,
dust etc
- General poor health
- Poor immune system
- Hypothyroidism or
hormonal problems.
- Emotional distress due
to poor care.
Treatment
for the Infection in dogs includes...
- Advice from your vet
is paramount.
- A biopsy maybe needed,
this may come from the pus.
- Complete blood counts
maybe taken for help to discover more information.
- Medication would
normally be given.
- Your vet may remove
some hair before applying creme and ointment.
- Antibiotics may also
be used.
