Hypothyroidism

"This stuff really works"

"Just thought I would drop you a quick note to say Thanks for the great product I bought 2 bottles of Thyro-up from you and I am really impressed with how well the product has worked. My 8 year old lab was losing hair all over and started to have a couple of bald spots, since using this product her hair is coming back in and the hair loss has slowed down. I would diffently recommend this product to anyone that has a dog with thyroid problems that wants to use natural remedies." Ulster Park. N.Y. - 04.30.11

"Finally something that works"

"My dog was diagnosed with hypothyroidism with chronic ear infections and pyoderma. NOTHING has worked even after spending thousands (five to be exact) over 4 years. My dog has energy, and the redness in his skin and the sores are healing. I have never had these type of results with ANYTHING---EVER. Thank you for giving my loving companion a new lease on life--I was beginning to grow weary of seeing him suffer and was considering putting him to sleep. I can't say enough about this product!!!!"Texas - 12.12.10

"She is her Sassy self again"

"Within one month my German Shepherd hair coat had returned to normal. She is her sassy self again. Thank you Thyro-up" Kymmie - 01.09.09

Hyperthyroidism

"Love the product"

"My dog was a mental case! Jack Russell that I adopted at age 4 and was obviously abused. He bit everyone. went from spastic, crazy to cuddly calm loving without warning. I began researching his symptoms and decided to try this product as most of his symptoms pointed to thyroid imbalance. after only 3 days of use he mellowed to a fairly normal dog. I can now trust him around other people. He has become a true part of the family." Charlotte N.Y - 09.03.10

"I saw a noticeable improvement"

"Before Resthyro Ziggy's weight was down, his fur was dull and matted. I could see a change in his all over well being. In approx. 2 weeks after giving Resthyro I saw a noticeable improvement, and now with some TLC and and the Resthyro he has gained weight and his temperament and fur has improved at least 85%." 2011

Thyroid Problems in Dogs

The Facts

Thyroid problems in dogs occurs when the thyroid gland positioned in your dog's neck stops working properly.

This gland secretes a hormone which helps to control your dog's metabolic rate - this is why keeping normal thyroid levels is so important for your dog. There are two forms of thyroid problems including - Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism.

Canine Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism - is when your dog's thyroid gland which includes the hypothalamus and pituitary gland don't produce enough hormones causing normal levels to fall. This basically causes your dog's body to start slowing down causing the following signs and symptoms...
  • Weight increase
  • Dry skin
  • Loss of hair
  • Unable to keep warm
  • Tired and lethargic behavior
  • Shedding of hair
  • The eyes may appear puffy and the skin may also thicken
Diagnosis...

Your vet may diagnose this problem by measuring the thyroid levels and exactly how much of the hormone the thyroid is producing. Treatment for the problem will involve replacement therapy - replacing the hormone that is'nt being produced.

Treatment...

The most common form of treatment for Hypothyroidism includes your vet administering a synthetic version of the hormones that your dog needs. The synthetic hormone includes thyroxine (levothyroxine) - this is the hormone that your dog is supposed to produce and the process is quite long and drawn out - blood tests will also need to be taken over a period of time.

Canine Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism - this is when your dog's thyroid gland is producing too much hormone which will cause your dog's metabolic to go into overdrive causing the following signs and symptoms...
  • Loss of weight
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Breathing problems and shortness of breath
  • Heart rate will speed up
  • Increased appetite
  • Your dog will start urinating more
Diagnosis & Treatment...

Your dogs' vet will achieve diagnosis in much the same way as when diagnosing Hypothyroidism. This will done by the vet measuring the thyroid levels and how much hormone your dog is producing. The treatment for the condition will involve your vet surgically removing the diseased thyroid.
